Contempo Closet Expands to Include Bedroom Furniture

Contempo Closet expands its line of freestanding wardrobe closets to
include platform beds and nightstands.

Passaic, N.J. August 5, 2011 - Contempo Closet started off specializing in creating and manufacturing free standing wardrobe closets. Recently, they added bedroom furniture including a line of platform beds, nightstands and chests of drawers. Platform beds come in a variety of sizes and are available with or without storage. Like the rest of the Contempo Closet line, these items can be customized in a variety of case colors and finishes to match the surrounding décor and/or the rest of the furniture in the room.

When asked what the motivation for the expansion, design consultant Gary Flax explained, “When someone is looking for furniture, they are usually looking to furnish a room. A freestanding wardrobe is a great start, but there are other pieces that are needed to complete the project. We wanted to streamline the process for our customers leaving them with a fully furnished room with complimentary pieces.” Contempo Closet designers noticed that coordinating bedroom sets frequently do not include bigger storage units like a wardrobe closet; This leaves the shopper to find the next best match—a match that is very rarely exact. Therefore, the solution is to offer a series of pieces that can be made to match.

In addition, by adding bedroom furnishing including smaller pieces, the company hopes to expand their appeal to consumers who have built in closets but need additional storage that can be customized.

Contempo Closet supplies “The Instant Wardrobe.” Contempo Closet, a furniture company based in New Jersey, specializes in customizable wardrobe closets for quick and efficient storage solutions. Design consultants and craftsmen work with customers to create freestanding wardrobe closets from modular units that best meet the customer’s storage needs. Lessons from Rachel Zoe

When I woke up this morning, I was bombarded with images of baby Skyler’s closet.  If you haven’t seen them yet– let’s just say that kid has an incredible wardrobe! I didn’t know a baby could own such things. As Rachel gave ABCNews a tour, I looked around for both style and storage ideas. I noticed that Skyler’s closet has room for hanging, shelving and also contains drawers. For those of you who read my last post—hello efficiency tip #5! At least I know my wardrobe closet (far from being a walk-in) is totally on its way to being awesome!

Using an accessory as an eye-catcher

Most people do not have the budget to operate on Rachel Zoe’s budget but there are still some fashion ideas/ tips that people on any budget can apply.

  1. Don’t be afraid of color. Have statement pieces—like a red shoe or a shirt with a fun print– in your wardrobe that can be paired with muted or subtle pieces to keep it all in check.
  2. Use accessories where they will be noticed. Rachel was displaying Sklyer’s clothing and her hands are what guides the experience. Did you notice the huge black stone ring she was wearing? It kept the viewer focused on her hands and thus what she was showing.
  3. Have a variety of fabrics and textures. Mix it up, keep things interesting. Also, this helps keep pieces organized by season—fabrics like wool and velvet are best suited for winter, and leather is great for fall and spring.
  4. If you are looking for something specific—ask for it. In most department stores, associates know what clothes are available and which section to find them in. Sometimes we might just be looking in the wrong place for a blouse the store has.
I’m always open to hearing what other wardrobe tips people have…

“There was an old lady who lived in a shoe…” Oh wait that’s me

Moving from a house to an apartment has gotten me, Emily Robinson, thinking about space, and how to effectively and efficiently use it. (And seeing the number of articles on related topics in home magazines tells me I’m not the only one.) I spoke with some design consultants here at Contempo Closet and then did some of my own thinking to come up with a list of tips to help maximize storage space.

Does your closet look like this? Feel like you have no room to organize? Read on for some solutions.

  1. Use height. A tall wardrobe may have the same footprint as a small dresser or chest of drawers but offers more storage space because it is taller. One option to take this idea even further are storage caps—special storage units that can be added to the top of a freestanding wardrobe thereby giving more storage space in the same floor area.
  2. Place items wisely. The items people wear most are in the most accessible spot in the closet. This would be the best place for “all-year long” items like t-shirts and tank tops. These items can be worn during the spring and summer by themselves, or under sweaters in the fall and winter. These items can be best stored on shelves.
  3. Rotate Seasonally. This may sound annoying, but let’s face it, you don’t need all of your clothing accessible all year long—In places like New York, Boston and Chicago you don’t wear bathing suits in December or turtlenecks in July. Therefore, a good idea would be to use the rest of your accessible space for what you need right now. Off-season items can be stored in a harder to reach area (like a storage cap, or underneath a storage platform bed) until the seasons change. Rotating your clothing also allows you to review what you own so that new purchases enhance your current selection, not duplicate it.
  4. Use Organizational Tools. There are many solutions that can help keep everything organized—even in small spaces. Take advantage of them. For example, installing a scarf rack on a wall in your closet or wardrobe, frees up shelf space the scarves would otherwise occupy. Other ideas include using shoe racks to keep shoes organized and accessible; and accessory trays to keep jewelry organized and handy.
  5. Find pieces that combine hanging, shelves and drawers. Let’s face it– we need it all. The best way to get the most use out of your space is to have all three components in one place.
  6. Be Creative. Just because the manufacturer lists something as a nightstand, doesn’t mean you cant use it as a dresser in a small area. Or that an end-table can’t be a night stand. Those descriptions are what they propose you should use a piece for, but you are not obligated to use it in that way. Look at a piece and decide how it will fit your style, space and needs and then determine what its real use should be.

Let me know about any more ideas you might have to increase the efficiency of your space. Happy decorating!

Your Exercise Equipment Is NOT a Closet

Brooklyn based phyical trainer, Mark Izhak, writes about what not to do with your treadmill. One thing he mentions is that a treadmill is not a giant hanger. If you need more room to store your clothes, try Contempo Closet’s 8 door wardrobe with hang rod and interior drawers. Contempo Closet can also help you organize accessories with belt rack or a tie rack.

Is this what your treadmill looks like? Clean it up!

The image of your shirts and pants hanging on a treadmill is popular these days. And why shouldn’t it? Your clothes are right there for you to grab. Picking what you want to wear is a cinch since your entire wardrobe is sprawled out on what should be a piece of equipment that burns calories and tones your butt!

Keep doing this if you want your clothes AND your thighs to get all wrinkly.

Here’s why you may have ended up this way; you chose the wrong piece of exercise equipment. If your treadmill is your closet, you probably don’t like running and should have gotten an exercise bike. A good piece of fitness equipment will cost you close to $1,000. Don’t get fooled by cheap models.

The cardinal rule in buying home equipment is this. Don’t buy it unless you love it. Otherwise it’ll just be the booty call version of your closet. Easy to use, but it’ll make a mess of your life.  Next, try before you buy. You want to know that you’re buying something that you will actually use. See if you prefer an exercise bike over an elliptical or treadmill.

Also, remember that you can get a great workout with any of these machines. Find a qualified instructor to take you through one or two workouts. This will show you how to get the best use out of it, which will give you the motivation to keep it clean and keep using it regularly.

What’s a girl to do…? How Marc Anthony Tried to Control Jennifer Lopez’s Wardrobe

According to US Magazine.com, Marc Anthony thinks his wife’s wardrobe is too sexy for a mother of two. What is she going to do with the garments that made her Style icon of the decade? We can think of several inconspicuous storage solutions– like storage caps and chest dressers with customized fronts and handles– until Jenn is able to be in control of her own style…

Us Weekly named Jennifer Lopez Style Icon of the Decade in spring 2010 — but her husband Marc Anthony tried to call the shots over the fashion diva’s clothes during a cover photo shoot for the magazine earlier that year.

Anthony, now 42, objected to a pic that he found “too sexy and unbecoming for a 40-year-old mother of two,” one insider tells Us.

Ever since the couple tied the knot seven years ago, the Latin crooner strove to curtail his wife’s famous style choices.

“He would make her feel terrible about herself if she wanted to wear something sexy,” says another source. “He likes her to dress in a demure, ‘wife’ style. He hated the fact that she was a sex symbol.”

“Marc has always been a very dominating husband,” another insider says of the couple, who announced the end of their marriage last Friday. “He wants to control everything Jennifer does.”

How Colorful Is Your Closet? Lots of finish options with our wardrobe collection

A great article below by Winona Dimeo-Ediger from The Frisky about how to infuse color into your wardrobe. What better way then to have a colorful wardrobe closet to go along with it, available in 3 different front finishes including matte, mirror and colored glass fronts in addition to a matching or contrasting case color resulting in thousands of combinations.

Tie-dye maxi dress, $49.50 by Delia*s

The vast majority of my clothes are black, which means my closet is almost as dark as a Stanley Kubrick film. Usually I’m okay with this arrangement. I prefer to bring color into my wardrobe with accessories—hot pink shoes, bright blue tights, gold costume jewelry—but there are times when I see someone rocking a bright green dress or a red skirt/yellow cardigan combo and I yearn for a more colorful wardrobe. The truth is, though, black clothing is my comfort zone. I bought a red dress a few weeks ago but have barely worn it because it’s so attention-grabbing.

So I was wondering: how colorful is your wardrobe? Do you build on black basics like I do, or maybe favor white instead? What color do you wear most often and why?

Wardrobe disaster: Fergie forgets to look in the mirror before stepping onstage

They say you dont appreciate what you have until its gone and the same goes for what you dont have until you realize you need it and the below is a perfect example. Who knew a full length mirror would be so valuable. As Sara McCorquodale and Sara Nelson from the Dailymail outline below, perhaps if Fergie only knew about our mirrored wardrobes earlier…

Fergie performs in New Zealand last night with her trouser zip undone

She may have sold millions of records and have assistants to ensure she looks flawless, but The Black Eyed Peas singer Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson can still have a wardrobe malfunction.

Performing in Wellington, New Zealand, the star danced and sang a selection of her hits, embarrassingly unaware the zip was down in her tight white trousers.

Teamed with a white waistcoat, Fergie showed off her toned physique and would have looked her usual groomed self if it wasn’t for the noticeable trouser disaster.

The incident isn’t the first time the singer has embarrassed herself on stage – in 2005 she famously wet herself during a gig in San Diego.

Let’s hope the recently engaged star pays more attention to the outfit she will don for her forthcoming wedding.

Actor Josh Duhamel, 35, proposed to the 32-year-old during a break in Mexico.

The pair who have been dating for three years already share a multi-million dollar house together in Los Angeles.

Did Joe Biden Really Lock a Reporter in a Closet? Not Quite. Good thing our Wardrobes don

Political controversy ensues over reporter that was locked in a closet as reported by Megan Gibson of Time below. Rest easy knowing that all our wardrobe solutions dont have any locks, although numerous other accessories are available.

We suppose it would depend on your definition of both “locked” and “closet.”

The Internet was abuzz over the weekend with the news that Vice President Joe Biden had locked a White House pool reporter in a closet. How could you, Joe? But it turns out that (of course!) there was more to the story than what met the web’s eye.

It seems that when Orlando Sentinel reporter Scott Powers was covering a fund-raising event with Biden on Wednesday, he was led into a holding room–which, apparently, isn’t unusual–because Biden hadn’t arrived and Powers wasn’t allowed to speak with guests. What was a bit unusual was the choice of holding room, said to be a room used for storage, or as Powers called it, “a closet”. Powers reports that it had a light and window and he was offered food and given water. He also noted that the door wasn’t locked, but when he did try to exit he was told he “couldn’t come out yet.”

Powers notes that he didn’t enjoy his wait and he’d snapped a photo of the room and sent it to his editor. The editor then (snarkily) blogged about the incident and the paper ran it the next day. And then, “the blogosphere went crazy,” says Powers.

With reports that Biden had forced a reporter in a closet, locking him inside, the Internet seemed determined to scandalize the rather inconsequential (though, likely irritating) incident. For the record, the vice president’s office apologized for having a reported wait in a storage room and Powers has noted that it wasn’t his intention to start “ClosetGate: the latest big Washington scandal”

Anna Dello Russo's golden closet rules (Photo credit: Getty Images)

Japanese Vogue‘s giant-golden-cherry-hat wearing roving Fashion Director Anna Dello Russo has a lot of clothes and accessories—that goes without saying. But how does she keep her vast collection of wearables organized? How does she separate her cherry hats from her apple hats? Her giant platforms from her not-so-giant platforms? Her gilded golden armour from her gold damask?

Well, we’ve got all of Dello Russo’s closet organizing tips after the jump.

On her blog today, Dello Russo lets us in on her top-ten wardrobe organizing tips. They are:

1. Elimina tutta la FUFFA—perchè fuffa genera fuffa!I say this in Italian cause the word “FUFFA” is difficult to translate in English, but I try.

1. Remove all RUBBISH because rubbish generates rubbish!

2. How to FENG-SHUI teaches you, you must make new empty ROOM for revitalize your seasonal wardrobe.

3. Store only the whole OUTFIT. In a future day, would not make sense to find a simple sweater desperately.

4. Buy only thin, non-slip HANGERS in asbestos. Those big, slippery, old, wooden hangers take up too much space.

5. Organize your closet by ITEMS: coats with coats, dresses with dresses, pants with pants, skirts with skirts… so you wouldn’t buy the same thing twice!

6. In front of a dress to KILL or to KEEP, ask yourself: future generations’ll want to see it?

7. Put the SHOES away from clothes, in the appropriate boxes with Polaroids. The leather’s smell doesn’t match with the fabric’s smell.

8. Preserve the stretch STOCKINGS in their packaging. There’s nothing worse than
wearing damaged filanca.

9. Don’t SQUEEZE the clothes on each other. Like flowers in the garden need their space!

10. Don’t use ANTI-MOTH chemicals, you don’t want to go out stinking of naphthalene

In other news, our new favorite word of the day is FUFFA. All caps.

Brokeback… to flatpack, David Cameron and Nick Clegg have secretly built a cabinet together inside No10 – an IKEA baby cupboard

If you ever think of DIY (do it yourself) projects, leave it to the politicians to convince you otherwise (although they may be right). As Tom Newton Dunn, Political Editor for the Sun recounts below, all of a sudden, finding a stylish storage solution that is not only affordable but delivered and set-up for you with the only task you are responsible for is placing your belongings and enjoy looks great.

Flatpack rat pack ... Cameron and Clegg get to work

The pair, whose blossoming friendship once saw them dubbed “the Brokeback Coalition”, put together the flatpack furniture for Mr Cameron’s new daughter Florence.

In an exclusive interview on the eve of the Lib Dem conference, Deputy PM Mr Clegg told how he helped out two weeks ago in the Camerons’ refurbished Downing Street flat.

Cabinet secrets ... PM and deputy face difficult questions

The father of three said: “David was still on paternity leave and I was holding the fort.

“They were installing themselves in the flat upstairs and David said to come up and see little Florence – who is adorable.

“So I went up, and found her asleep, but the Prime Minister struggling with an IKEA cupboard which he was assembling.

Working it out ... politicians are firm friends

“I felt I was able to provide some helpful tips, having struggled with IKEA cupboards myself before.

“We’re both young dads, with young children, who struggle with IKEA furniture.”

And he joked: “Have you ever undone an IKEA screw? It’s one of the great challenges of the world!”

The bonding session is an intriguing insight into how close the former poll rivals have now become.

Their friendship prompted the jibe by rebel Tory MP David Davis about Brokeback Mountain, the Hollywood tale of two gay cowboys who fall in love.

But Mr Clegg laughed that off, explaining: “I actually found it quite funny.

“I get so much thrown at me every day, I don’t take any of these things seriously.”

He said the partners do often keep in touch from their different office buildings by text message.
