The typical logic surrounding home design in the 21st century hinges upon the dichotomy between big and small.  Most spaces feature one large room – typically a family room or living room – which has several smaller satellite rooms – typically bed rooms or bath rooms.

Paris Fashion Week Begins Tomorrow

Ready the runway! Fashion Week hits ParisLondon, NYC, and Milan have had their first shot at Fashion Week 2012, but now the French are stepping up to the plate to show the rest of the world how it’s really done.  Starting tomorrow, Tuesday Feb. 28, designers and models will take to the catwalks in the city of lights for Paris’s Ready to Wear Fashion Week 2012.  The show will feature some of the biggest names in the world of fashion design including Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, Stella McCartney, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Luis Vuitton.

Am I Ugly? A Strange Trend Emerges on the Web

Am I Ugly? The answer is 'no' girlsSomething weird is happening on the Internet (well, weirder than usual).

Teenage girls are posting videos of themselves online and asking “Am I ugly?” inviting, sometimes harsh, criticism from their peers.  Some say it’s just a phase, some say it’s attention-fishing, and others say it’s a dangerous side effect of growing up in an increasingly interconnected world.

With instant access to Facebook, Youtube, Flickr, Tumblr and hundreds of other websites where we’re free to broadcast ourselves and gauge the reactions of others, people are on public display more than ever, and, more importantly, open to the criticism of others.  For teenagers and adolescents, already stricken with insecure emotions at an awkward growth phase, it forces them under more pressure to fit in and create an image consistent with today’s standard of beauty.

When everyone’s life is on display 24/7, some people do start to realize they’re being watched.  It’s only natural to wonder what everyone else must be thinking.

Fall Fashion Week Heads to Milan as Euro Zone Crisis Looms

The Euro Zone Debt Crisis threatens the Italian Fashion IndustryNYC got its share of fashion week recently, but now the show is heating up in Milan where Armani, Prada and more will hit the cat walk to show off the latest in frosty autumn/winter apparel.

A Yahoo News story picked up an interesting angle on the trend show noting that sales of Italian fashion are forecast to be down 5.2% in 2012, which will mark a slowdown for the $79.59 billion/yr. fashion industry.

Top designers, such as the aforementioned Armani and Prada, should weather the storm “almost unscathed” however smaller design shops have to be creative to avoid heavy losses.

“We need to be innovative, because people who buy fashion have their wardrobes full, so they want something different,” says niche designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua.

Fashion sales within Europe are expected to decline this year, but exports outside of the European Union are forecast to grow two percent.  Hopefully the recovering American economy will be enough to offset the lack of Euro Zone funds.

Sacrifice To Clear Your Mind and Your Space

Empty your thoughts and your spaceWith the passing of Ash Wednesday, Catholics enter the Lenten holiday, a time for sacrifice, reflection and ultimately self-improvement.

One of the most important words jumping across their lips today is sacrifice.  Catholics give something up for 40 days and 40 nights ultimately as a means of self-improvement, to do away with a vice or urge that they leave unchecked throughout most of the year.

America is driven by an unending urge to consume.  Shopaholic, materialistic, whatever you want to call it, America has a spending problem.  And as the spaces we live in slowly shrink, our possessions continue to grow, unchecked.

With this endless march of possession, space becomes cluttered and organization becomes difficult.  As space descends into chaos, so does the mind.  A cluttered space begets a cluttered mind, confused by a mass of needless thoughts and extraneous worry.

This year, cut down for a change.  Spend less.  Donate a few items to charity.  Unclutter your life, unclutter your mind.
